چکیده

A procedure is presented for the simultaneous prediction of fluid–fluid and solid–fluid equilibrium of light gases/heavy hydrocarbons systems under pressure. The objective of this work is to simplify the predictive approach previously proposed by the authors, making it more useful and accessible to users at the petroleum industry. The main modification with respect to the complex LCVM (linear combination of Huron–Vial and Michelsen) mixing rule that was previously used for the attractive term “a” of the equation of state (EOS). To avoid the use of a group contribution method, which is difficult to bring into play with real fluids, the LCVM mixing rule is here replaced by the classical quadratic van der Walls one-fluid mixing rule. The deviation that using this mixing rule introduces into the gamma–phi approach is cancelled by a new parameter , introduced in the calculation of the solid-phase activity coefficient. This procedure was tested for a large range of multicomponent systems where the parameter was fitted to match the wax appearance temperature (WAT) at atmospheric pressure. From the values obtained a correlation relating the parameter to the carbon number in the heavy fraction was developed, allowing a prediction of wax formation in petroleum fluids. It is shown that this approach can successfully be applied to the prediction of wax formation at high pressure for live oils. © 2005 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 51: 2089–2097, 2005

Compositional Modeling of Wax Formation in Petroleum Mixtures

Heavy organics deposition is a common problem in oil industry, especially in oil production, transportation and processing. Wax or solid paraffin series are examples of heavy organics that deposit. Precipitation and crystallization of wax causes major difficulties in different processes. Based on multi-solid theory, a basic model is modified in this paper for wax precipitation in different oils...

Mathematical Modeling of the Differential Sticking Coefficient of Clay Drilling Fluids

The main objective of this work is to propose a mathematical model for the differential sticking coefficient of clayey drilling fluids with a lubricant as an additive and evaluate the influence of differential pressure and lubricant content on filter cake thickness and permeability. Tests were carried out on fluids composed of water and 4.86% of active bentonite clay prepared in Hamilton Beach ...

Determination of Hydrate Phase Equilibrium Curve Using High-Pressure Visual Cell

This study aimed to construct the hydrate three-phase equilibrium curves for two typical Iranian gas reservoir samples using a high-pressure visual cell. To do so, complete analysis of the reservoir fluids was obtained by different techniques of composition analysis i.e. gas chromatography (GC) and detailed hydrocarbon analysis (DHA). Using high-pressure visual cell the hydrate phase equili...

Wax formation in hydrocarbon fluids at low temperatures is one of the harassing problems faced by the petroleum industry. The prevention of wax formation, the production of diesels more resistant at low temperatures and the design of new and better additives requires a good understanding of the crystallisation behaviour of the paraffin molecules. Better experimental techniques to study the wax ...

A new predictive UNIQUAC for modeling of wax formation in hydrocarbon fluids

10 A new UNIQUAC based predictive local composition model is here compared against predictive Wilson and predictive modified UNIQUAC on their abilities to predict wax formation. For that purpose a very large database of phase equilibrium data of both synthetic and real hydrocarbon fluids, at both low and high pressures, will be used. It is shown that the new UNIQUAC model does not suffer from t...
